The Disko Tek captures the spirit of carefree summer days and sensuous nights on
‘El Helwa Di’ – a fine disco-tinged piano house anthem with Middle Eastern
influences that’s as fresh as it is funky.

Featuring honey-smooth vocals from
talented Egyptian singer Dina Galal, ‘El Helwa Di’ is an irresistibly silky, luxurious
and feel good track primed and ready to bring serious dance floor heat across the
MENA region and beyond.

As infectious as it is exquisite, ‘El Helwa Di’ hooks you in right from the off with a
funky bass riff that gets your hips shaking as the drums roll on.

Dina’s vocals sit
atop splashes of melody, before the piano and sax embark on a nimble dance,
rising and falling throughout the mix to take you ever higher.

The track’s old school
sensibilities are reimagined for modern dancefloors – and the result is a
smile-inducing, genre-blurring, shimmering summer anthem.
The Disco Tek is the latest project from international DJ and producer Carlos B.
Born in Saudi Arabia and currently based between Beirut and Cairo, the Lebanese
DJ began spinning at the tender age of 16.

Honing his skill at the best clubs and
festivals across the MENA region, Carlos built a solid reputation for his top-notch
tune selections, while his production work makes distinct nods to his heritage.
Not content with also running two international labels – Ministry of Dance Arabia
and TDO Records – Carlos was inspired to create The Disco Tek project during a
stay in Egypt.

In the land of the Pharaohs and energized by the country’s passion
for art and music, Carlos hit upon the idea of giving golden Arabic hits a
thoroughly modern re-rub, bringing them into deep disco and funky house terrain
through new arrangements, new vocals and live instrumentation.

For The Disko
Tek project, the DJ and producer calls in male and female vocalists, a guitarist and saxophonist.

‘El Helwa Di’, in fact, was originally created by Egyptian singer and composer
Sayed Darwish, widely considered the father of Egyptian popular music. “My time
in Egypt was really inspiring,” says Carlos.

“The people there love music and love diversity in music. I’m also really inspired by the Arabic saying ‘El zaman el gamil’,
which means “The beautiful past, golden oldies hits. So by rearranging these into
a disco and house style, I’m hoping to leave a mark from this project – ‘Arabic
disco’. It’s never too late to strive for new achievements and, through hard work, I
believe we can all reach our goals.”
While in Egypt, Carlos also discovered the amazing vocal talent of Dina Galal.
“Dina has one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard,” says Carlos. “Every
time we record a song, her vocal performance blows me away. We’ll definitely be
working on more tracks together in the future.”
For now, Carlos is delighted with their new interpretation of ‘El Helwa Di’. “It really
took us to a different place than we were expecting,” he says. “It’s a great blend of
pure disco and pure ’80s and ’90s house vibes.”
Out 17th June, ‘El Helwa Di’ is a sonic tonic that will lift your spirits, make your soul
sing and your feet dance.
