Giant Belgian painter Hergé , author of the famous graphic novel Tintin, was undoubtedly the star of this sale.
CAIRO – 28 March 2022: The French auction house Maison Millon organized one of its four annual sales dedicated to the world of comics in Brussels.
This event revealed the ever-increasing interest of the ninth art enthusiasts and collectors, as more than 600 bidders participated in this session online and in person.
The total turnover was close to €1,000,000 with 96 percent of the pieces sold. An amount that vastly exceeds the total estimate of the 640 items at auction, which combine iconic original paintings that have appeared in the comic books and historical comic album versions.
Giant Belgian painter Hergé , author of the famous graphic novel Tintin, was undoubtedly the star of this sale. All the albums associated to him at the auction found buyers for a total amount of €203,359, almost twice the group's top estimate.
Sales of the original works were also very successful with a total value of €483,097 and 90 percent of the pieces sold.
The auction included paintings by André Franquin, Hergé, Jacobs, Möbius, Vance, Hermann, Bilal, Rosinsky, Oderzo, Manara, Tardy and Maurice.
European comics writers also fared well, thanks to the intervention of graphic arts experts Arnaud De Barts, Terry Goossens, Jean-Michel and Michel Denier.
In the span of 15 years, Millon Auctioneers Group, with a total of €60 million and more than 30 albums in this discipline, has become a major player in the ninth art market, covering the entire world of painting thanks to original releases of rare albums and paintings.
