CAIRO – 24 November 2021: The first phase of the operation of electronic payment machines for entry tickets to the Luxor and Karnak Temples launched on November 24, replacing the manual ticket payment system.

This comes within the framework of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' strategy for a comprehensive digital transformation of archaeological sites and museums.

Assistant Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Digital Transformation Khaled Sharif explained that the operation of the  ticket system enables tourists to obtain electronic tickets to enter these temples and pay using credit cards.

Sharif further explained it is scheduled to follow up on the work of the electronic transformation project in the West Bank, which comes as part of the ministry's project to develop visitor services in more than 30 archaeological sites and museums nationwide. This includes the use of electronic tickets and the installation of electronic gates.

It is noteworthy that the electronic gates system has been activated in the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat, the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and the Pyramids’ Antiquities Area.
