CAIRO – 21 November 2021: Although the use of screens of different sizes has enabled people to create, upload and view content on different platforms, the number of homes that have televisions is increasing by the day.

The interaction between emerging and traditional broadcast media provides opportunities to raise awareness of the important issues facing our societies and our planet.

In recognition of the increasing influence of television on decision making by drawing the public attention to disputes and threats to peace and security, and due to its potential role in placing greater emphasis on other key issues, including economic and social issues, the United Nations General Assembly (in its resolution 51/205 of December 17, 1996) marked November 21 as the World Television Day.

Television has become a symbol of communication and globalization in the contemporary world.

On November 21 and 22, 1996, the United Nations held the first World Television Forum, where leading media figures met under the auspices of the United Nations to discuss the growing importance of television in the changing world and to consider ways to enhance their mutual cooperation.

That is why the General Assembly decided to designate November 21 as World Television Day, to commemorate the day on which the first World Television Forum was held.
