Google honors veteran Melhem Barakat with a google doodle

CAIRO - 15 August 2021:Google celebrated what would have been late veteran singer Melhem Barakat birthday with a google doodle.

Barakat was born on August 15, 1945, in Lebanon.

He inherited his passion for music from his father.

Melhem father who was a carpenter, taught Melhem how to play oud.

Later Barakat dropped out of school and joined the National Institute of Music.

He studied music theory, Solfege and eastern singing.

 Four years later he dropped out of the institute to debut his professional career.

He participated as an actor and singer in many of the Rahbani Brothers’ musicals and operettas.

In 1968, he left the Rahbani Brothers’ to start a solo career.

In the 1990s Barakat presented a number of popular songs including "Habibi Enta," which was later sung by his ex-wife May Hariri.

He also collaborated with a notable group of stars, including  Nagwa Karam, Carol Sakr, Shatha Hassoun and Mageda el Roumi.
