CAIRO - 6 August 2021: College of Language and Communication celebrated the Class of 2021 in an outstanding ceremony in Abu Qir Campus in Alexandria.

Under the auspicious of Professor Ismael AbdelGhafarIsmael Farag, the President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime transport, the College of Language and Communication (CLC) continued stunning the audience with a spectacular performance of the graduation projects in Alexandria.

It is not surprising to see student's graduation projects dazzling the eyes of the spectators but it is wildly astonishing to see graduation projects surpassing the levels of undergraduate year to being professional and excellent in research and production" said Ibrahim Fakhr, the renowned director who was one of the examiners.

"Each year marks a new beginning to a new batch of students but each year marks also the last year of our students who have become part of our big CLC family" said Professor Abeer Refky, the Dean of the College of Language and Communication in an interview with Egypt Today.

Though the graduation projects came in a harsh yearwhere the pandemic has been always haunting us "theCLC was able to get over any difficult period and the students were excellent in adapting to all the new conditions which have embedded both online and blended learning." added Refky.

"I am very proud of all CLC students and of the great work they’ve exerted throughout the year" added Refky.

With eyes filled with joy and tears, class 2021 bid farewell to a four year old college where they learned, produced and contributed to the college practical and theoretical subjects. And more importantly, they became part of the CLC family

"CLC is a big family where each staff member knows us one by one. From the time, I entered the college until I graduated, I never hesitated to approach any of the doctors .Also , the TAs are the best ones could ever hope for,"Hend Ismail, a media graduate, told Egypt Today.

Insights, which is the main theme of this year media graduation projects, delves into the realms of the  digitisation of Media as seen by youth .Fallacy, for example , the short science fiction film embodies the falsification image of the social media and how itparallels the new reality we are living in .

"3laem Efterday" (An alternative reality ) is the first of its kind radio drama series written , directed and produced by the CLC students. It is a novel adaptation from Fantasia, a series of  novels written by the great writer Ahmed Khaled Tawifk. "Wara el Hekaya " (Behind the scenes ) is another short that tackles the effect of media on youth in specific.

Two documentaries embroidered with perfectionismwere highly appraised by the spectators.  Natr is a documentary that exposes Egypt's hidden gems, the natural reserves where the students toured more than 13 natural reserves.

During their journey, they unravelled the beauties and the differences of these natural reserves in such a way to promote Egypt tourism.

Whereas Indie-ology which comes from (Indie filmmaking and Ideology) showcases the challenges that face independent filmmakers .The film features three youngfilmmakers who climbed the ladder of fame with sweat and blood.

Starring the super stars Amr Salama, Amir Ramsis and Karim ElShenawy , the film intrigued the journeys of the filmmakers in a beautifully cut directed scenes.

In addition, the graduation projects witnessed a large social media campaign that aimed at raising awareness for charity work among youth.

Basma (or leaving a good touch) displays five social video advertisements which showcase the importance of helping and supporting others.

"Charity work makes a huge difference, not only in the lives of others but also it changes drastically our lives to the better," said Khadija Alaa, one of the graduates.

"These productions do not showcase only good directors or editors, but also they presented to us young actors or actresses such as Jaydaa Mansour, Alaa Fouda, YaraEhab in Fallacy as well as Yassin and Nourane in Indeology and the talented voice Rowan Tarek in 3alem Efterday" added Fakhr.

On a Facebook post full of emotions, Alaa Fouda , a graduate said that the university years meant a lot  to her. "The exchange program, the extracurricular activities, the travel, and the friends she made" all helped her to become the person she is today.

She refers back to the semester she joined in Geneva University in Switzerland where the College of Language and Communication offers a joint dual degree programme with both Auntomona University in Barcelona and GeneveUniversity in Switzerland.

"The experience represents a huge milestone that I will forever be grateful to" added Fouda who is also a model, an actress and an advocate of women's rights.

The ceremony also witnessed the research projects exhibited by the language and the translation department.

The students were able to conduct full blown research projects using various translation strategies for different mediums.

Under the theme, women empowerment, which is one of the UN sustainable development goals, students at the Language and the translation department impressed the audience and their examiner with their excellentpresentations skills that mirrored perfectly their brilliant graduation projects they highly endeavoured.

"They have not selected one or two mediums but they selected four different mediums;   audio visual documentaries, websites, articles and cartoons. They all represent difficult challenges in translation strategies," said Professor Sameh AlAnsary, Head of the Phonetics Department at the faculty of Arts, Alexandria University.

AlAnsary who was the main examiner of the Language and Translation department accredited the students for their enormous hard work which was clearly shown in their pretty flawless research papers which "resemble a postgraduate dissertation paper."
