Egypt’s Documentation House renovated at a total cost of L.E. 20 M

CAIRO – 10 June 2021: After the June 30 revolution, all the sectors of the Egyptian state have been carrying out development and restoration operations in all government facilities, including cultural facilities.

Among the undertaken projects is the development and renovation of the Documentation House in Fustat - Ain El-Sira in Cairo.

The project started on January 1, 2008 and was completed on May 1, 2015. The Documentation House building was established in Fustat - Ain Al-Sira with a grant provided by Sheikh Al-Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah. The project’s cost amounted to L.E. 120 million.

The Documentation House spans on an area of 4900 square meters, and consists of an upper and ground basement, in addition to three floors on a building area of 12,000 square meters. The building includes three floors that work as safes for storing documents.

Other floors include a center for restoration and preservation of documents, a seminar room, a training center, an oral history center and spaces for technical departments.

That is in addition to a hall for viewing documents, designed according to the latest international systems and showing documents of all kinds; as well as a museum and a cafeteria.

The project aims to preserve the increasing numbers of documents received by the archives, especially after the stipulation of Article 68 of the 2014 constitution  to oblige all state agencies to hand over their papers to the National Archives, as it is the central archiving authority for documents.
