UNESCO Director-General visits historic Cairo, Saqqara, the Giza pyramids

CAIRO - 5 April 2021: In line with the current visit of Mrs. Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, at the invitation of Dr. Khaled El Enany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, to attend the Pharaohs' Golden Parade, held yesterday. Mrs. Audrey Azoulay and her accompanying delegation visited historic Cairo, Saqqara and the pyramids of Giza, They were accompanied by Dr. Mostafa Waziriy Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities.
 
In historic Cairo, they visited Al-Moez Street, the Sultan Qalawun Complex, the Sultan Barqouq Madrasa, and the Museum of Islamic Arts. In Saqqara, they visited Wahti tomb and the excavation work of the Egyptian archaeological mission working in the area.
As for the pyramids of Giza, they were received by Mr. Ashraf Mohi El-Din, Director of the Antiquities area of the Pyramids, where they visited the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx.
 
During the visit, the Director-General of UNESCO expressed her happiness, and her fascination with the ancient Egyptian civilization.
 
It is worth noting that the Director-General of UNESCO visited the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir upon her arrival in Egypt the day before yesterday.
