CAIRO – 30 March 2021: The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing a live interactive webinar session on the International Day of Happiness on March 31 at 2 p.m.

Consultant Psychiatrist Nabil el-Qot will speak during the webinar, which sheds light on the different concepts of happiness, their impact on the individual and society and the methods of reaching the various forms of happiness.

The United Nations celebrates the International Day of Happiness in March of every year, acknowledging the importance of the pursuit of happiness, while defining public policy paths to achieve sustainable development, eradicate poverty, and provide well-being for all people.

The day is also celebrated in recognition of the world's need for a new economic model that achieves parity between the basic pillars of the economy, represented by sustainable development, material and social well-being, individual safety and the environment, which naturally defines what global happiness is.

The idea of establishing an International Day of Happiness was proposed by the activist, philosopher and special advisor to the United Nations Jimmy Lien, to inspire people all around the world to celebrate happiness on a day dedicated to it, and to promote the global happiness movement.

March 20 of every year was chosen as a Day of Happiness, as it falls on the Spring Equinox Day, which is a global phenomenon that occurs all over the world at the same time. The first International Day of Happiness was celebrated on March 20, 2013.
