Egypt exports 1st shipments of oranges to Brazil in new session

CAIRO – 8 February 2021: Egypt succeeded in exporting the first shipments of the new season of Egyptian oranges to the Brazilian market, in cooperation with the Brazilian Embassy in Cairo, Minister of Trade and Industry stated Monday.

 

This came in implementation of the free trade agreement signed between Egypt and the countries of the Mercosur Group, which includes Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, according to Gamea.

 

She pointed to the importance of this agreement in opening new markets for Egyptian products in the markets of South American countries, praising the continuous cooperation between the Egyptian and Brazilian governments to enhance joint commercial and economic relations.

 

For his part, Assistant Minister for Economic Affairs, Ibrahim El-Sigini, explained that a Brazilian technical mission visited Cairo last year to negotiate the final import of Egyptian citrus fruits for its markets, during which it inspected a number of Egyptian citrus farms, accompanied by specialists from phytosanitary in the Egyptian agricultural quarantine, as part of the preparation for opening the Brazilian market to Egyptian citrus exports.

 

He pointed out that Foreign Trade and Agreements department at the ministry, during the past period, held a series of meetings with gatherings of Egyptian businessmen and exporters, in cooperation with the Brazilian Embassy in Cairo and the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in São Paulo.

 

El-Sigini added that the last period also witnessed several rounds of technical consultations between the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and its Brazilian counterpart, which resulted in the registration of Egyptian garlic and oranges in Brazil in May 2020, as the Ministry of Agriculture announced the start of exporting citrus fruits to Brazil in accordance with international standards of export quality, and the application of tracking systems for export products.
