CAIRO – 28 October 2020: Egypt’s Minister of Transport Kamel Al-Wazir discussed with the Japanese ambassador in Cairo, Masaaki Nuki, and the delegation of the JICA Foundation in Egypt, the latest developments related to the fourth line subway project.

 

The fourth line passes from Al-Ashgar District on the sixth of October until Amr bin Al-Aas in Fustat.

 

According to a transport statement issued, Wednesday, the two sides agreed to hold intensive meetings between the Tunnels Authority and the Japanese JICA, to speed up all procedures for starting the implementation of the project in light of the two sides' commitment to achieving all the terms of the financing agreement signed between the two sides.

 

Al-Wazir stressed the need to complete all the project’s procedures to start implementing civil works on the ground, whether for the eastern or western part of the project, especially since the Egyptian companies have great experience in this field.

 

He explained that the contract for electromechanical systems for the two phases has been completely terminated with the consortium of (Mitsubishi and Thales), and a contract for mobile units with Mitsubishi International is underway.

 

For his part, the Japanese ambassador praised the efforts of the Ministry of Transport in developing all sectors of the system, stressing the Japanese side’s keenness to continue cooperation with the Egyptian side in implementing such important projects.
