CAIRO - 11 September 2020: Minister of Public Business Sector Hisham Tawfiq has paid a visit to Sharq el-Owainat region in the New Valley governorate, where he saw for himself the experiment of cultivating short-staple cotton on a farm belonging to the national company for reclamation and cultivation of desert lands, which is affiliated to the National Service Projects Organization (NSPO).

In a statement released Friday, the Ministry of Public Business Sector said the minister was accompanied by a number of NSPO officials, representatives of Olam International - a leading food and agri-business company – in addition to senior officials from the ministries of agriculture and public business sector.

During the tour, a video was played on phases of cultivating short-staple cotton on an area of 219 feddans in Sharq el-Owainat via mechanized agriculture, the statement said, noting that the crop yields are set to be produced by the end of September.

Tawfiq extended thanks to the Ministry of Agriculture, the NSPO and Olam International company for their efforts in the experiment.
