CAIRO - 29 September 2020: Minister of Transport Kamel El Wazir on Tuesday signed a contract with the French RATP Group to run and operate Cairo Metro Line 3.

French Ambassador in Cairo Ambassador Stephane Romatet and Head of the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) Essam Wali and RATP Group Chairman Laurence Battle attended the signing ceremony.

In statements following the signing, Wazir said the transport ministry has an ambitious plan to upgrade and develop one of the transportation means which is the urban transportation, noting that a number of projects are currently being implemented in Cairo and Alexandria governorates.

Such projects are being carried out in cooperation between international partners and national companies, he added.

He said the agreement with the French side included that 90 percent of the metro workers should be Egyptians as they will be trained by the French side.

Wazir also voiced hope over further beefing up cooperation with the French company in future.
