CAIRO - 31 May 2020: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said Sunday the government targets, through the Upper Egypt Local Development Program, to promote investment in the Upper Egypt governorates and enhance the competitive advantage of each governorate.

Madbouli stressed the importance of improving the level of services offered to citizens in different sectors.

The premier was addressing a meeting to follow up the executive and financial situations of the Upper Egypt Local Development Program in Sohag and Qena governorates in the presence of Planning Minister Hala el Saeid and Local Development Minister Mahmoud Sharawi.

Sharawi clarified that about 2,575 projects worth of LE 5.8 billion are being implemented in Sohag and Qena in the current fiscal year, noting that 1,796 projects had been finalized, while 779 others are under implementation.

Implementing the program in the two governorates has contributed to improving the efficiency of services provided to the citizens, the minister pointed out.

Four industrial zones are planned to be established in the two governorates with a total investment of LE 6 billion by the beginning of fiscal year 2020/2021, he said.

Five million, out of eight million targeted citizens, benefit from the program, acclaimed by the World Bank, a matter which greatly contributes to reducing the poverty rate in Sohag and Qena, the minister noted.
