EGX enters green zone after Eid Al-Fitr Holiday

CAIRO – 31 May 2020: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) started trading after Eid Al-Fitr holiday in green, adding LE 6.07 billion to market capitalization, amid Egyptian and Arab purchases.

Earlier, EGX and the Central Bank of Egypt announced Eid Al-Fitr holiday to be five days from Sunday, May 24, till Thursday, May 28.

The benchmark EGX30 hiked 1.09 percent, or 110.23 points, to close at 10,220.14 points.

The equally weighted index EGX 50 jumped 1.63 percent, or 24.28 points, to end at 1,515.31 points.

Meanwhile, the small and mid-cap index EGX 70 increased 2.56 percent, or 28.93 points, to close at 1,159.99 points, and the broader index EGX 100 climbed 2.32 percent, or 42.49 points to 1,872 points.

Market capitalization gained LE 6.07 billion, recording LE 548.69 billion, compared to LE 542.63 billion in Thursday’s session on May 21.

The trading volume reached 174.42 million shares, traded through 22,726 transactions, with a turnover of LE 613.48 million.

Foreign investors were sellers at LE 113.64 million, while Egyptian and Arab investors were net buyers at LE 79.12 million, and LE 34.53 million, respectively.

Egyptian individuals were net sellers at LE 5.18 million, while Arab and foreign individuals were net buyers at LE 34.28 million, and LE 4.45 million, respectively.

Foreign organizations bought at LE 118.09 million, while Egyptian and Arab organizations bought at LE 84.3 million, and LE 240,464, respectively.

Egyptians Real Estate Fund Certificates, Delta Construction & Rebuilding, and El Obour Real Estate Investment were top gainers of the session at 10 percent, 9.88 percent and 9.61 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, Zahraa Maadi Investment & Development, Torah Cement, and Glaxo Smith Kline were top losers of the session by 6.10 percent, 5.17 percent, and 4.02 percent, respectively.

EGX ended Thursday on mixed note as: EGX30 dipped 0.94 percent, EGX 50 declined 0.10 percent, while EGX 70 increased 0.20 percent, and the broader index EGX 100 rose 0.13percent.
