Production index for transformative, extractive industries slightly rises in Oct.

CAIRO – 5 January 2020: Egypt’s industrial production index for transformative and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, inched up 0.04 percent, recording LE 131.20 (primary) during October 2019, compared to LE 131.15 (final) during September 2019, the state's statistics body said.

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said that the index for the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products hit 139.25 during October 2019, compared to 130.84 in September 2019, with an increase of 6.4 percent, due to an increase in supply contracts.

“The record number for the non-metallic mineral products (brick-glass-cement) reached 93.66 during October 2019, compared to 91.10 in September 2019, marking an increase of 2.8 percent due to the creation of a new production line for one of the sources,” CAPMAS added.

The index of printing and cloning industry rose 12.5 percent, recording 174.43 in May 2019, compared to 155.1 in April due to an increase in supply contracts.

Meanwhile, the index of the food products industry decreased 4.8 percent, reaching 146.89 in October 2019, compared to 154.30 in September 2019 due to a decrease in demand.

The printing and reproduction media industry recorded about 195.20 during October 2019, compared to 198.32 in September 2019, with a decrease of 1.6 percent, due to the decrease in supply contracts.

In September, Egypt’s production index for transformative and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, recorded 130.92, compared to132.09 a month earlier with a decrease of 0.89 percent.
