CAIRO - 17 December 2019: Egypt and the World Bank signed Tuesday a grant from the Trust Fund for Statistics Capacity Building Project to support the preparation of the national strategy for the development of statistics, at a value of LE 2.5 million.

Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr, Head of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) Khairat Barakat, and Director of the World Bank Office in Egypt Marina Weiss signed the document.

This grant comes from the Trust Fund for Statistical Capacity Building and is managed by the World Bank as director of grants from various donors, the Ministry of Investment clarified in a statement.

“The project aims to support the CAPMAS in preparing the national strategy for the development of statistics,” it added.

According to the statement, the project consists of conducting statistical assessments of sectors, including the initial evaluation of at least five important sectors and monitoring the sustainable development goals and the national strategy development. The statistics development team will work with sector experts to conduct these assessments and prepare the national strategy for the development of statistics.

This is in addition to the implementation of the capacity-building measures of the team to meet the national result for the development of statistics.

Weiss expressed the World Bank Group's happiness to participate in the first national strategy for developing statistics in Egypt, because it is of utmost importance to inform the government and citizens of the developments of the social and economic situation, which leads to making sound decisions.
