CAIRO, Sept 15 (MENA) - The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) on Sunday announced that the consumption of oil products and natural gas decreased from 79.3 million tons in 2016/2017 to reach 79.1 million tons in 2017/2018 recording a reduction rate of 0.26 percent.

In a statement released on Sunday on the occasion of celebrating the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, CAPMAS said emissions resulting from the use of oil products and natural gas reduced to 206.8 million tons in 2017/2018 down from 210 million tons in 2016/2017 with a reduction rate of 1.5 percent.

The International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is marked September 16 each year. This day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. This designation had been made on December 19, 2000, in commemoration of the date, in 1987, on which nations signed the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.
