CAIRO – 21 August 2019: Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek el-Molla revealed Wednesday that the production capacity of Zohr field increased to 2.7 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas.
Molla clarified in a statement that this hike came ahead of the scheduled date in the field development plan by about four months, pointing out that this rise came after the completion and implementation of the second sea line with a diameter of 30 inches and a length of 215 km, which entered operations in mid-August.
The new sea line connects the wells of the southern part of Zohr to production, bringing the number of wells currently produced to 12, according to the statement.
The minister said that the current production of Zohr field represents eight times the production of about 2 years of the first field production in December 2017.
For his part, Head of Petrobel Atef Hassan said that the company was entrusted with the task of developing the field, adding that his company succeeded in putting the first phase of production on the map of production in December 2017 through the stages of increasing production.
Hassan added that the company also completed the operation of the fifth, sixth and seventh production units of the onshore station during the first quarter of this year. He explained that this has had a significant impact in increasing the capacity of the land station.
This in addition to the development of the marine control platform to accommodate the second electro-hydraulic cable length of 160 km, which was completed in March 2019 to control the wells of the southern region.
Egypt’s main contributor of gas supply is Zohr gas Field which is the biggest gas field in the Mediterranean, with an estimated production of 30 trillion cubic feet.
