CAIRO - 21 February 2019: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli chaired on Thursday a meeting to review the progress rate of the establishment of Dameitta Furniture City which covers 331 feddans.

Madbouli, during a meeting attended by several ministers, said President Abdel Fattah El Sisi attaches importance to financing workshops in the city.

Madbouli gave directives of developing all roads leading to the city, facilitating transportation means and taking good care of the city lightening system.

The new city will make a qualitative leap in transforming the local furniture industry into a global one, he added.

The city includes 1,500 small and medium workshops of 50 to 150 meters with about 150 large and complete factories besides the establishment of the furniture technology center in Damietta.

Madbouli said the workshops in the city will serve the entire furniture factories across the country not only in Dameitta.

Setting up a wood factory inside the city upon the request of furniture manufacturers will be mulled, he said.

Investment and International Cooperation Minister Sahar Nasr said negotiations are under way with the Italian side to provide a grant to the project, especially as Italian is known for furniture industry.

Ehab el Far, Director of the Military Works Department, said 99 percent of the project has already been finalized, adding that the rest of the works will be finished early March.

Construction works of the project began in May of 2017 and are to be finalized in March.
