CAIRO - 9 September 2018: Minister of Industry and Trade Amr Nassar met on Sunday with the Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UFM) Nasser Kamel to discuss the possibility that Egypt organizes the 2019 forum which will be attended by a big number of investors.

Kamel will hold meetings during his first visit to Cairo since he assumed office earlier this year with the ministers of foreign affairs, transportation, and energy as well as the secretary-general of the Arab League.

Kamel explained that the talks will focus on Egypt’s contribution to the sustainable development projects in the member countries, especially in the sectors of transportation and energy, stressing the role Egypt has played since the UFM’s founding in 2008.

Nassar asserted the importance of the cooperation between member states to upgrade the trade agreements within the organization and expand its geographical scope which would boost and facilitate trade between countries southern and northern the Mediterranean.

Former Minister of Industry and Trade Tarek Kabil attended in March the 10th Union for the Mediterranean Trade Ministerial Conference encompassing 43 trade ministers from member states.

The conference aimed at coming up with initiatives to facilitate and increase trade and investment flows, in order to enhance and strengthen the mutually-beneficial economic integration process in the Mediterranean region.

The talks also tackled promoting current free trade agreements and signing new comprehensive free trade deals.

The

UFM Conference on Maritime Transport and Logistics

took place in Ismailia governorate lying on the western shores of Suez Canal on May 8,9 and was inaugurated by former Prime Minister Sherif Ismail.
