CAIRO - 27 August 2018: Petroleum Minister Tarek el Molla attended on Monday a celebration held by BP Egypt Company for having the number of Egyptian researchers to be granted full scholarship for post-graduate studies in the UK reach 100.

Higher Education Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, BP Regional President of North Africa Hesham Mekkawy and a number of presidents of oil companies operating here were present at the event.

In a statement, Molla lauded the BP's initiative and its support to talented researchers, saying that such initiatives contribute to achieving sustainable development in the society in all domains.

The minister pointed out that the petroleum sector attaches paramount importance to developing human resources as it is considered a cornerstone of the country's progress.

Abdel Ghaffar, for his part, thanked the Petroleum Ministry and the British oil company for their efforts to support talented researchers, calling for doubling the number of scholarships.

He stated that the Higher Education Ministry will contribute to funding these scholarships through signing a protocol with BP Company.

Meanwhile, Mekkawy said over the past 17 years, Egyptian graduates were sent to pioneering universities in the UK in order to prepare well-qualified cadres that help in developing their society.

He also pointed out that more than 35 percent of the students supported by the company were females.
