CAIRO – 8 April 2018: More than 200 companies specialized in food products will participate in the “Super Market Ahlan Ramadan” fair, Ashraf el-Gazayerli, the chairman of the Chamber of Food Industry (CFI) said Sunday.

The fair is organized by the government and the General Federation for Chambers of Commerce to provide different kinds of goods ahead of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, when consumption peaks. It will take place on 10-13 May.

Gazayerli said that companies are keen to participate in the fair in light of its great success last year, adding that the companies will provide large amounts of foodstuffs with reduced prices.

The exhibition will offer all kinds of goods as well as 450,000 Ramadan bags, which contains some basic food supplies, at prices of LE 80-110 per bag.

The fair will offer 7,500 tons of frozen meat, 66,000 tons of sugar and 935,000 packs of cooking oil.

Frozen chicken will be sold at LE 17 per kilo, while one kilo of sugar will be sold at LE 8.5, instead of LE 9.5. Also at the fair, the Food Industries Holding Company will offer its goods at reduced prices of 15-20 percent.

With the advent of the holy month of Ramadan every year, the government strives to provide the market with essential foodstuffs.

Demand usually peaks in Ramadan so the government every year makes sure to provide the market with enough quantities of goods to prevent price hikes.
The fasting month of Ramadan is set to start on 17 May.
