DAMIETTA - 25 March 2018: Transport Minister Hisham Arafat and Tarek el-Molla, the Minister of Petroleum, on Sunday laid the foundation stone of a multipurpose station at Damietta Port.

They also inaugurated an expansion of the operations center at the port.

The Egyptian government is keen on maximizing benefits of the naval transport system to help boost the national economy, said Arafat.

He touched upon a clear strategy his Ministry is adopting with the aim to always upgrade Egyptian ports to be on an equal footing with international harbors.

Worth 1.3 billion pounds, the multipurpose station is set to be complete in 18 months from the start of implementation, Arafat made it clear.

Part of the project is about establishing a 630-meter long and 17-meter deep platform, the minister said, expecting an increase in the volume of trading by four million tons per year.

Annual revenues could reach 160 million pounds, Arafat estimated
