CAIRO – 7 June 2023: Egypt recorded 1.35 million tourists in April, the highest monthly level in Egypt’s history, Minister of Tourism, Ahmed Issa stated.

Egypt aims to receive 15 million tourists this year, 18 to 20 million in 2024, and 30 million tourists annually in 2028. This comes in line with Egypt’s national strategy to grow the tourism industry by 25-30% annually.

This increased the number of incoming tourists to about 4.5 million visitors in the first four months of 2023. The Tourism Minister stated that Egypt needs to double its hotel room capacity to 500,000 rooms up from 230,000 within five years.

Issa stressed on the importance of the role of the private sector in leading growth in the tourism industry.
