CAIRO - 2 February 2023: The media observatory of the customs authority denied on Thursday reports circulated by some social media pages that customs duties on some commodities, including electrical appliances and Yamish Ramadan (dried fruits and nuts), were increased.

It warned that these pages are trying to disrupt public order by spreading fake information in a bid to obstruct the development march achieved across the nation and create a state of discontent among citizens.

The observatory stressed that no amendments in applicable customs tariffs can be enforced unless after the issuance of a relevant presidential decree and the approval of the parliament.

It added that the last customs tariff amendment was introduced in June of 2022 with the aim of lowering duties on over 150 types of imported production inputs.
