CAIRO - 10 November 2022: Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Honeywell Egypt Company to transform government entities into smart institutions.
 
The MoU aims at achieving sustainable digital operational excellence for Egyptian government institutions and transforming them into smart institutions based on modern, environmentally friendly technology.
 
The signing came on the sidelines of the COP27 Climate Summit, currently being held in Sharm El-Sheikh, in the presence of Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mostafa MAdbouli, and Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, according to a statement issued, Thursday.
 
The MoU was signed by Ghada Labib, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Institutional Development Affairs, and Khaled Hashem, President of Honeywell for North Africa.
 
After signing the memorandum of understanding, the Prime Minister indicated that it comes within the framework of implementing the state's plans for sustainable digital institutional development for government institutions, in order to achieve operational excellence for them, and to ensure administrative and environmental sustainability, leading to an efficient and effective administrative body that improves the management of state resources, and is characterized by transparency, integrity and flexibility.
 
The Minister of Communications explained that the memorandum of understanding aims at the joint institutional cooperation between the ministry and the company Honeywell Egypt, to transform the new building of the General Office of South Sinai Governorate, and the Sharm El-Sheikh Hospital building, into sustainable smart buildings to achieve the highest rates of efficiency, and reduce energy waste rates for buildings, through contributing to achieving operational excellence, in a manner that ensures the administrative and environmental sustainability of government institutions.
 
Ghada Labib explained that under the memorandum of understanding, a pilot model of the project will be implemented in Sharm El-Sheikh, to transform the new building of the General Office of South Sinai Governorate and the Sharm El-Sheikh Hospital building into sustainable smart buildings based on modern technologies, especially artificial intelligence and data analysis.
 
She also added that the possibility of disseminating smart building technology to various Egyptian government institutions will be studied in light of the outputs and results of implementing the pilot model of the project in Sharm El Sheikh, to increase efficiency and reduce energy waste, in a way that ensures sustainable digital operational excellence for it, and contributes to creating a business model that matches the global trend towards green transformation and reducing carbon emissions by adopting environmentally friendly technology.
