Egypt’s Petrochemical Holding Company embarks on producing biodegradable plastic

CAIRO - 3 October 2022: The Petrochemical Holding Company aims to produce green petrochemicals to preserve the environment and keep pace with the global trend to reduce the harmful impact resulting from the disposal of plastic products and other waste.

 

The company has embarked on several projects to produce biodegradable plastic as such:

 

1- A production capacity of 75,000 tons annually.

 

2- Its manufacturing depends on vital sources such as glucose and raw sugar.

 

3- The investment cost of the project is $600 million.

 

4- It is proposed to be implemented at SIDPEC and to start operation in 2026.

 

5- There is also a project to convert plastic waste into oil to be used as a raw material for the manufacture of polyethylene at SIDPEC.

 

6- It aims to produce fuel from plastic waste, with a production capacity of 30,000 tons annually.

 

7- The method of pyrolysis and hydrocracking, which is the latest approach to plastic recycling will be used by the end of 2025.
