China opens its market to Egyptian grapes

CAIRO – 14 July 2017: Chinese Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine(AQSIQ)issued a decision to end the ban on imports of Egyptian grapes, According to Egypt’s Agricultural Export Council reported on Thursday.

Egypt’s Agricultural Export Council stated that Chinese’ decision to end the ban came after long discussions with the Chinese counterpart that lasted more than two years.
He also expressed his hope to double Egypt’s exports of grapes which has reached 120,000 thousand tons last season.

Egyptian citrus exports have also jumped from 1,000 tons in season 2005/2006 to 105,000 tons worth $54 million during the current export season 2016/2017.

The head of Egypt's Agriculture Export Council, Abdel-Hamid El-Demerdash, stated that the Chinese side was convinced lately by Egypt’s new system to boost the quality of grapes products.

Demerdash also called Egyptian exporters to adhere to the Chinese demands to gain the confidence of the Chinese consumers.
