ISMAILIA, Egypt - 11 July 2017: The Suez Canal is capable of accommodating any container ship in the world, whatever its size, the head of the Suez Canal Authority said.

In a press statement on Tuesday, Mohab Mamish said the Suez Canal Authority succeeded in attracting the biggest ships in the world, citing the world's fifth largest container ship, which transited the international waterway earlier in the day.

The authority is keen on implementing development projects on a regular basis to keep pace with the latest developments in the field of maritime transport, he added.

The container ship Mol was coming from Sri Lanka and heading for the Moroccan port of Tanger-Med in an 11-hour voyage, a source at the Suez Canal Authority told MENA.

The nine-floor vessel is about 400 meters long, 59 meters wide and 15.5 meters deep, he added.
