CAIRO - 9 November 2021: Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir witnessed on Tuesday the signing of eight memoranda of understanding and protocols with global companies in the fields of railway, maritime transport, and dry ports on the sidelines of TRANS MEA 2021.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was inked between the Egyptian National Railway Authority and Austria's Voestalpine to increase the production of the Abbasia workshop.
Another MoU was signed between the Wardan Institute for training and Elsewedy Electric and Germany's Deutsche Bahn on setting up vocational training centers.
A third MoU was inked between the railway authority and DB Engineering & Consulting of Germany to present technical consultative services that contribute to increasing the authority’s ability to advance the levels of operation and maintenance.
The minister attended the signing of a trilateral cooperation protocol among the national railway authority, Trans IT, and Revenga Smart Solutions of Spain to develop the railway stations with electronic gates and systems.
In the maritime transport, Wazir witnessed the inking of an MoU between the Egyptian Group for Multipurpose Terminals and Abu Dhabi Ports Group to prepare and operate Safaga Port's multipurpose terminal.
The project aims to lure more investments in the industry and logistic services domain in the region, a matter which contributes to opening new markets for Egyptian exports by operating direct maritime services with the Gulf, African, and eastern Asia countries, according to the minister.
In turn, Head of Ports Cluster of AD Ports Group Saif Al Mazrouei thanked President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for sponsoring TRANS MEA 2021, saying AD Ports is keen on boosting its regional and international presence, hailing Safaga Port's strategic location.
The minister also attended the signing of an MoU between the Egyptian Group for Multipurpose Terminals and the Arab group company for supply chains to manage and operate a dry bulk terminal for the handling of grains and oil at Dekheila port.
Another MoU was signed between the General Authority for Land and Dry Ports and an Egyptian-Ukrainian consortium to conduct a preliminary feasibility study for Sadat Dry Port to be completed by end of January.
