CAIRO – 7 July 2017: Qatari vessels can cross the canal since it is an international maritime navigation passage, as per the 1888 Convention of Constantinople, Mohab Mamish, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) said in a statement on Friday.

However, Egypt is still committed to maritime ban of Qatari vessels from using the Egyptian territorial water, ports and the economic zone.

Egypt, along with Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Libya’s eastern-based government and the Maldives severed diplomatic ties with Doha on June 5 and imposed a transport ban to and from the Gulf state by closing their land, sea and air borders over accusations of Qatar backing terrorist groups.
