Egypt, Oman’s FMs discuss Arab League emergency meeting on Libya

CAIRO - 22 June 2020: Egypt’s Minister Sameh Shoukry made a phone call with his Omani counterpart Yusuf bin Alawi, discussing the bilateral relations and the issues that will be addressed during the League of Arab States Council ministerial meeting due on Tuesday, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

“The conversation also tackled the overall regional issues of mutual concern and the latest developments in the region, in addition to the issues expected to be discussed during the League of Arab States Council ministerial meeting, scheduled to be held virtually tomorrow, especially since the Omani Minister chairs the current League of Arab States Council session at the ministerial level,” the statement read.

The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States will hold an emergency meeting on Libya on the level of Arab foreign ministers via video, at the request of Egypt.

This comes a day after Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi checked on the forces in Egypt’s Western Military Zone and said that the Air Force, the Special Forces, and the Border Guards have been securing 1,200 kilometers of borders with Libya for seven years, and accomplishing missions that have not been disclosed. Sisi urged them to "be ready to accomplish any mission whether here within our borders or - if needed – beyond our borders."
