‘Beyond Europe’: Germany, France back Egypt’s efforts to face coronavirus

CAIRO – 4 May 2020: The French and German ambassadors to Egypt issued a joint statement hailing the Egyptian authorities’ efforts to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus and protect Egyptians, while they deal with the economic stability issues.

In the statement entitled “Our solidarity goes beyond the borders of Europe,” German Ambassador Cyrill Nunn and French Ambassador Stephane Romatet praised the Egyptian people’s “sense of responsibility” who have followed the social rules to prevent coronavirus infection.

“To overcome these difficulties and defeat the virus, France and Germany today, more than ever, stand side by side with Egypt,” the statement read.

Egypt's Sisi, France's Macron discuss cooperation to fight coronavirus

CAIRO - 5 April 2020: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi made a phone call with his French counterpart, President Emmanuel Macron, where they discussed ways of bilateral cooperation to face the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, the Presidency said in a statement on Sunday.



“We support the economic and sustainable growth of Egypt and its people through activities related to the development of the private sector, in terms of job provision, water fields, energy, education, urban development and digitization.

The two countries are also taking “immediate support procedures” in the health sector, the statement said, adding: “we are fully committed, as founding and active members of the International Monetary Fund, to back the Egyptian government’s determination to enhance the benefits of the economic reform, which it has implemented through the past four years”.

The two countries are working on a medium-term plan to allocate resources from both countries to help the African country refresh its economy once the novel coronavirus crisis is over.

“We know that we will have to coexist with this virus for months to come, perhaps for years, but we will be able, together, armed with our unity, to defeat it in the end.”

“In such times when we are obliged to maintain social distancing, countries and peoples worldwide should come closer to each other to fight their joint battle against the pandemic and its long-term impact.”

The statement affirmed that “unity, solidarity and cooperation” and a “great deal of commitment and flexibility” are the only ways to beat coronavirus.

“Certainly, Germany and France are ready to face his challenge, together with their partners in Egypt.”

Egypt recorded, Sunday 272 new coronavirus cases and 14 deaths, which raises the total infected patients of COVID-19 to 6465 and the total deaths to 429 according to Health Minister’s daily briefing.

Health Ministry Spokesman Khaled Megahed added that 40 patients, were discharged from the hospital after being confirmed that they are completely recovered from the viruses, this also raises the number of recovered cases to 1,562 out of 2,041 who had been retested for the virus and had received negative results.
