CAIRO - 4 May 2020: The House of Representatives' general committee headed by Speaker Ali Abdel Aal in a plenary session, approved on Monday a presidential decree to declare the state of emergency nationwide for three months

The House of Representatives formed a committee Monday morning to consider the president’s decision and submit a report after considering the government's statement on the state of emergency.

“The Armed Forces and Tourism Police shall take all the necessary measures to combat the dangers of terrorism and its financing sources in order to maintain security throughout the country, protect the public and private properties and save the lives of citizens,” the decree says.

On April 3, Egypt’s Cabinet approved the state of emergency for three months as of April 28, 2020, announced Prime Minister Mustafa Mabdouli.

On April 28, President Sisi issued a decree extending a nationwide state of emergency for three months starting Tuesday, April 28. The decision was published on Tuesday’s issue of the official Egyptian gazette.

This is the eleventh time the state of emergency has been renewed since it was first imposed on April 10, 2017 following the two church bombings that claimed the lives of 47 people, and has been renewed since then.
