After interrogating him on Saturday, the Public Prosecution of Kuwait ordered the detention of Bugaily for 15 days in the lawsuit, which the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs filed against him for insulting the Arab Republic of Egypt under the name of Kuwait on his Twitter account.

Investigations indicated that he rents the account to two Palestinian nationals for a monthly sum of money. One of the two Palestinians who manage the account lives in Jordan, and the other resides in Qatar.

Kuwaiti Writer Mubarak Al-Bugaily was interrogated by the Kuwaiti prosecution for his “insulting” comments on Egypt, an anonymous Kuwaiti source told Egyptian newspaper Sada al-Balad on Wednesday evening.

Mubarak Al-Bugaily posted a series of tweets against Egypt, denouncing the way the country is dealing with the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, and undermining the Egyptians working in Kuwait.

He faces accusations of inciting dispute between Egypt and Kuwait. He posted a tweet, in which he wished that the virus spreads in Egypt to turn into an epicenter of the virus like China, Italy, and Iran.

With the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the Middle East, controversies on social media have been sparked after Kuwaiti actress Hayat al-Fahd and parliamentarian Safaa al-Hashim called for kicking the foreign laborers, including Egyptians, out of Kuwait.

Egyptians reacted angrily on Twitter against both women, and created hashtags against them.
