CAIRO- 9 February 2020: Nina Gregori, the executive director of the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) in Malta, welcomed Friday Egyptian Ambassador Nada Draz, and Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Migration, Refugees and Combating Human Trafficking, Amrel-Sherbiny.

The meeting discussed the current situation of the refugees crisis especially with the increasing waves of displacement in the world due to political and economic conflicts.

Gregori praised Egypt’s efforts to host large numbers of refugees from the Middle East and African countries.

On December 12, Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs Hamdi Sanad Loza reviewed Egypt's efforts in hosting refugees during an event organized by Egypt's permanent mission in Geneva.

During the event, held on the sidelines of the first Global Refugee Forum in Geneva, he expounded Egypt's efforts in hosting more than 250,000 refugees registered atthe United Nations Higher Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) from 59 nations and around 5 million others, the majority of whom had fled disputes, violence and suppression in their own countries.

"Egypt offers services to refugees in the fields of education and health and they benefit from the state subsidies of various basic commodities," he said, highlighting the country's steps to improve their conditions in light of Egypt's Vision 2030.
