CAIRO - 30 November 2019: The Public Prosecution referred fugitive contractor Mohamed Ali to criminal court on Saturday over charges of VAT evasion two weeks after he was sentenced to five years in prison by Tax Evasion Misdemeanor Court.

New Cairo Misdemeanor Court still examines the lawsuit filed by Style company for interior design charging him with fraud and illegal seizure of LE11 million.

The plaintiff’s plea states, “the defendant pretended that he owns a large contracting company that obtained concessions to accomplish big projects in order to conclude two subcontracts. One was signed on June 7, 2017, while the other is dated on October 30, 2017.”

The plea in the lawsuit carrying no. 7135/2019 adds that Style fulfilled its duties indicated in the contracts worth LE11,765,668, and that Ali promised to pay once the value of the contract with the client is delivered. Later on, the subcontractor figured out that the client had already paid the full amount, and that it was subject to a scheme along with other companies.

Ali has first fled to Spain where he posted videos criticizing the regime starting September, and later moved to the United Kingdom.
