CAIRO - 2 October 2019: Renowned lawyer Bahaa Abu Shoka, head of the Parliament's constitutional committee, was chosen to lead the committee again for this year, after Khaled Hanafi, the rival candidate, cancelled his candidacy.

The selection of Abu Shoka, also head of the New Al-Wafd Party, as the head of the committee comes as part of votes taking place before every new session for the parliament; each committee shall pick a head, two deputies and a secretary from among its members by majority.

Abu Shoka is an Egyptian lawyer and politician. He was a member of Egypt’s Shura Council from 2012 until it was dissolved in 2013.

Following the January 25 Revolution that forced former President Hosni Mubarak in 2011 to resign, Abu Shoka was mandated as one of Mubarak’s defense team in the lawsuits filed against him.

In mid-June 2012, he was named as a member of the Constituent Assembly of Egypt that created the country’s new constitution.

Moreover, MP Ahmed El Segeni, Secretary General of the Support Egypt Coalition, won a landslide victory in the local administration committee vote, by 26 votes against only 5 votes for MP Dina Abdel Aziz.

MP Mohammed al-Husseini and MP Badawi al-Neweshy were selected as deputies for the committee, while MP Mona Gaballah was chosen for the secretary post.
