CAIRO - 25 September 2019: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Tuesday met with the presidents of Kenya and Djibouti on the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where they agreed to continue coordination and consultation.

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ismaïl Omar Guelleh praised the Egyptian side for accepting to hold this summit, based on the brotherly and firm relations between Egypt and both countries and the interests they all share, presidential spokesman Bassam Radi said.

President Sisi highlighted the need of convergence between the visions of Kenya and Djibouti, as part of the keenness to unify the African stance, based on the wisdom of the two countries' presidents.

During the summit, the three African leaders have agreed on the continuation of coordination and consultation, stressing that the East African region is witnessing a critical stage, in light of the major challenges currently under way, including terrorism, and the need to achieve development and prosperity for the peoples of the African nations.

Sisi affirmed the need to overcome these challenges by cooperation among the African countries and the consolidation of efforts.

The tripartite summit was held at the request of Kenya and Djibouti, Radi said, in light of Egypt's chairmanship of the African Union this year, and the special relations linking Egypt with both countries.

The Egyptian president also met with his US counterpart, where President Donald Trump said the relationship with Egypt is “better than ever before” in terms of trade and business. Trump also said he would discuss Libya with Sisi.

Sisi delivered a speech at the Health Care session of UNGA, where he emphasized the highly successful anti-Hepatitis C campaign in Egypt.
