Ugandan speaker lauds Egypt’s role in keeping peace in Africa

CAIRO – 19 July 2019: Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament Rebecca Kadaga praised the centrality of the Egyptian role as a cornerstone of stability, security and peace in the Nile Basin and Africa, especially in light of its current chairmanship of the African Union.

Meeting President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Thursday, Kadaga stressed Uganda's keenness to boost its relations with Egypt and enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields, presidential spokesman Bassam Radi said in a statement.

Egypt’s Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel Aal attended the meeting in Cairo.

Kadaga conveyed the greetings of President Yoweri Museveni, affirming that the Ugandan people highly appreciate and respect Egypt. She also referred to the historic and extended relationship between the two countries and their peoples.

The meeting reviewed the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, according to the statement.

President Sisi affirmed the importance of supporting Uganda's development efforts and the cooperation in capacity building through various programs organized by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development, referring also to the role of the Egyptian companies in contribution to the development of Uganda, the statement read.

The president stressed Egypt's keenness to strengthen its relations with Uganda at all levels, including the parliamentary and public dimension, taking into account the important role played by parliaments of African countries in strengthening the bonds of African brotherhood and solidarity that unite the peoples of the continent.

Sisi requested conveying his greetings to his brother Ugandan President Museveni, the statement said, stressing the strength of historical relations between the two countries and their peoples.
