Sisi, Jordanian PM urge enhancing economic ties, increasing trade

CAIRO - 4 July 2019: Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met on Wednesday with Jordanian Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Omar al-Razzaz, who has been in Cairo in an official visit to attend the 28th session of the Egyptian-Jordanian Higher Committee meetings.

During the meeting, Sisi and Razzaz reiterated the need to continue working on enhancing economic relations and increase trade between Egypt and Jordan to the level of the political relations and the historic bonds that the peoples of the two countries share, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said in a statement.

"President El Sisi lauded the historic bonds as well as the firm and brotherly relations between Egypt and Jordan at both the official and popular levels. The President looked forward to continuing coordination between the two countries across the various levels, notably in light of the similar situations surrounding them as well as the growing challenges facing the region in general."

"The Jordanian prime minister confirmed that he was pleased to visit Egypt and meet with President Sisi. He underscored commitment to further enhancing coordination and intensive consultations with Egypt, given the strong relations and bonds between the two countries. This is in addition to the key and pivotal Egyptian role in the region, which contributes to countering the common challenges the Arab nation is facing and to strengthening the outstanding strategic relations between Egypt and Jordan."

"The meeting reviewed aspects of bilateral relations. President Sisi commended the convening of the 28th session of the Egyptian-Jordanian Higher Committee meetings in Cairo today (Wednesday). The meetings were co-chaired by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly from the Egyptian side, and Dr. Razzaz from the Jordanian side. President Sisi lauded the periodic convening of the committee, which demonstrates a mutual commitment and keenness on strengthening frameworks of cooperation between Egypt and Jordan across all fields."

"The talks also reviewed the latest developments in the region, notably the Middle East peace process. Egypt and Jordan confirmed the need to continue intensive efforts toward reaching the two-state solution, based on the resolutions of international legitimacy as the foundation for settling the Palestinian issue."

"They also agreed on supporting efforts aimed at reviving the peace process and resuming negotiations on this basis. The meeting also discussed developments in Syria. There was an agreement on the need to continue to work toward reaching a comprehensive and lasting solution to the crisis so as to halt the deteriorating situation there and preserve the resources of the Syrian people."
