Egypt's foreign, defense ministers to hold talks in Russia

CAIRO – 23 June 2019: Minister of Defense Mohamed Zaki and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukri headed to Russia foran official visit to hold 2+2 talks with the Russian side.

The visit, which is set to take place in Moscow, comes to enhance the bilateral relations between the two countries in many fields, according to official statements.

The visit also includes holding several discussions with senior officials of the Russian Ministry of Defense to discuss a number of issues and topics of common interest in light of the military partnership and cooperation between the armed forces of both countries.

Shoukri is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with his Russian counterpart SergeyLavrov on ways to enhance bilateral relations in various political, economic and cultural fields. The two ministers arealso set to consult on the most prominent regional and international issues of common concern.

In October, Shoukri and Lavrov signed the Strategic Political Memorandum. Later on, Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin signed a memorandum pertinent to the Comprehensive Partnership and Strategic Cooperation Agreement.

Sisi told press he reviewed with his Russian counterpart the resumption of direct flights from Russia to Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada, and others as well as the updates of mega joint projects, mainly the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant and the Russian Economic Zone in SCzone.

On his part, the Russian president declared that Egyptian-Russian ties grew on all levels and scales, especially in the economic sector as trade exchange rose by 20 percent mid-2018 compared to last year. Putin stated he looks forward to more deliberation and coordination in addition to diversification and development of cooperation aspects, especially when it comes to Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant.
