WASHINGTON - 6 June 2019: The US has called on its citizens in Sudan to be cautious and get ready to leave the country.

The US Embassy in Sudan issued a security alert to its citizens in each city in metropolitan Khartoum (Khartoum, Omdurman, and Khartoum North) and in other cities across Sudan.

Violence and civil unrest continue in Khartoum and across Sudan, said a statement issued by the embassy.

The airport in Khartoum is open; however, some flights have been cancelled or are being rescheduled. Traveling to the airport may be hazardous due to roadblocks, civil unrest and violence.

Movement by US government personnel at the US Embassy has been reduced to minimal official movements only. The Embassy is closed to the public.

Meanwhile, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London (FCO) advised against all but essential travel to Khartoum and all other remaining areas of Sudan due to developments in the security and political situation.

As of 5 June 2019, the decision was made to withdraw non-essential British Embassy staff and dependants from Sudan, it said.
