CAIRO – 27 May 2019: The moderation of Islam is far away from extremism and violence is unanimous opinion stated by leading Islamic scholars at Mecca-held Muslim League Conference, which kicked off on Monday under slogan “Moderation values in the Quran and Sunnah.”

The four-day conference discusses the Islamic heritage and Fiqh (Islamic legal rulings) along with ways to enhance moderation in Muslim societies. By the end of the conference, more than 1,000 participants will sign the historic Mecca Document.

In commitment to the moderation of Islam, Saudi Arabia reiterated its call for renewing the religious discourse to mute speeches of hatred down, said Khalid bin Faisal Al Saud, the Governor of Mecca Province, in his speech at the opening session of the conference.

“The Kingdom has condemned all forms of violence, extremism and terrorism. It countered them [these forms] ideologically […] It [the kingdom] reiterated that Islam is far away from them,” he said.

In his speech at the opening session, Egyptian grand Mufti Shawky Allam called for supporting Saudi Arabia in its approach of upgrading the moderation of Islam and standing against all powers of evils that aims to undermine the Saudi kingdom.

“We strongly reject all accusations of terrorism against Islam. We also reject accusations of terrorism against other religions. I call on you to combat the dangerous disease of terrorism by all means," said President of Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov at the conference.

Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Abdul-Aziz ibn Abdullah Al ash-Sheikh affirmed that the Quranic verses and Prophet Muhammad’s Sunnah – Peace and Blessing be upon him- recognize the principle of moderation in the religion.

“The ideology of the terrorist dose not base on a military force, but rather on an extremist ideology that exploited some people’s religious feelings [...] The influence of its evils and dangers became the entire world’s concern and caused misinterpreting against Islam ,” said Muhammad bin Abdul Karim bin Abdulaziz Al-Issa, Secretary General of the Muslim World League, in his speech.


Meanwhile, Chairman of the Emirates Fatwa Council Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah said that the moderation is the law of the universes and the law of all judgments, and the law of Sharia [Islamic laws].

Sheikh Al-Issa, praised the Saudi Arabian sponsorship of the Muslim League conference under King Salam bin Abdel Aziz\s auspices.
