CAIRO - 5 May 2019: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said Sunday that a plan to develop Sinai and Suez Canal region is part of a comprehensive vision drawn up by the political leadership for sustainable development nationwide till the middle of the century.

This came during his speech at a ceremony for the inauguration of a number of national projects in central Sinai and Ismailia, the premier greeted President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan.

Madbouli appreciated "the epic" forged by the Egyptian people in the recently-held referendum on constitutional amendments, saying "The people sent a message of trust in the leadership of President Sisi and the achievements on the ground,".

He noted that the comprehensive vision for sustainable development was ushered by President Sisi in 2014, hailing the efforts of the Armed Forces at the security level in Sinai.

All state's underway projects are being implemented in line with a scheme drawn up - till the mid of the century - to accommodate the rapid population growth and realize sustainable development, Madbouli said.

Moreover, as many as 243 underway projects are set to be finalized by June 2020 totaling LE437 billions.

Though the residents of Suez Canal zone governorates represent only six percent of Egypt's total population, these governorates account for 20 percent of the nations' investment plans till 2020.

"Up to 133 projects have been finalized in the fields of transport and linking roads in Sinai worth LE 115 billion", Madbouli stated.

As for the domain of housing and upgrading slums, the premier said that 52 projects totaling LE54 billion have been finalized.

He added that 31 more projects are underway across governorates at a cost of LE13.3 billion.

Speaking about water and sewage system, Madbouli highlighted the newly-launched strategy that is meant to improve drinking water in Sinai.
