Egypt-Saudi cooperation rigorous against terrorism: Jubeir
During a visit to Cairo, Jubeir affirmed that both countries have a comprehensive vision to combat terrorist organizations, saying “We look forward to developing cooperation with Egypt, especially in the field of countering extremism and terrorism and protecting Arab national security."
Strong cooperation in the field of counter-terrorism was highlighted during the American-Arab-Islamic summit which was held in Riyadh between Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz, U.S. President Donald Trump, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and King Abdullah II of Jordan in mid-May, according to Jubeir.
The four leaders announced their integrated efforts to fight terrorism in the region and the world, agreeing on confronting the growing Iranian threat in the Middle East and inaugurating the Center for Combating Extremist Ideology to monitor and fight extremism.
The Egyptian-Saudi meeting convened on Sunday amid tensions between Qatar and the other Arab Gulf states regarding Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s alleged remarks in which he directed a message to four Arab countries - Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain - that “being hostile to Iran is unwise.”
"We discussed how to counter terrorism by putting an end to the financial resourcing of terrorism and preventing the creation of safe havens for terror groups,” Shouky said at the conference.
Concerning bilateral relations, Jubeir said that the meeting tackled the Egyptian-Saudi joint electricity network which is scheduled to operate by 2018. It will connect the Saudi electricity transfer station located in Medina in Saudi to that in the Egyptian town of Badr.
After the press conference, Shoukry accompanied Jubeir in a tour of a Foreign Ministry Museum in the headquarters of the ministry in downtown Cairo.
