CAIRO – 22 February 2019: In statements to media outlets, father of one of the convicts’ in the case of assassinating top prosecutor Hesham Barakat in 2015, read his will, in which he confessed that ‘he chose the martyrs and jihadists way’.

During a phone call to Mekameleen TV, (which is known of being affiliated with the outlawed group Muslim brotherhood), father of Abu Bakr Abul Mageed, who was executed on Wednesday, Feb. 20 along with other eight convicts read his son’s will.




The will which was written as a poem stated that he knew exactly what he was doing, and that he wanted to take action as a ‘Jihadi’ for the favor of his religion (Islam).

The father said that he received the will from his son during his last visit to him in prison.

After executing the nine individuals accused with assassinating Barakat in 2015, several social media activists decided to share their experiences and opinions regarding executing the convicts. Some of the activists discussed execution as a legal punishment of itself, others discussed the case and the final judgment and some of the outlawed Muslim brotherhood members even claimed that the whole case evidences is weak.

However, a video of the nine individuals involved in assassinating Barakat proves that the perpetrators gave a full confession to the police without any torture.



The perpetrators spoke intensively in the video about their cooperation with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood and how they participated with other vandals in disturbing the public peace before orchestrating the assassination.

The execution of the nine defendants sparked a wide range of controversy on social media platforms with anonymous hackers attempting to infiltrate the Facebook account of the late top prosecutor’s daughter.

CAIRO - 22 February 2019: A wave of controversial posts swept over social media after executing nine individuals accused with assassinating the country's top prosecutor Hesham Barakat in 2015. Several social media activists decided to share their experiences and opinions regarding executing the convicts.





The executed individuals were convicted of bombing the convoy of late Hesham Barakat on June 15, 2015, during the holy month of Ramadan. Perpetrators were convicted of deliberate and premeditated killing, possession of prohibited weapons, and explosives acquisition.

The Court of Cassation upheld in November 2018 the death sentences against 10 convicts in the case, as it considered the appeals of 67 defendants.

The appealed rulings include death and life sentences as well as 10-year-terms in prison. On April 19, the Court of Cassation rejected appeals by 46 convicts in the same case upholding their enlistment as terrorists for three years.
