Azhar University to organize AAU Olympics in March

CAIRO - 12 February 2019: A bureau of the Association of African Universities (AAU) will be inaugurated on the campus of Al Azhar University on March 12. The university will also organize the AAU’s Olympics taking place on March 10-15.

President of Al Azhar University Mohamed Al Mahrasawy made the announcement in a press conference on Tuesday.

The association was founded in 1967 and is headquartered in Ghana. The AAU has 380 member and associate member institutions that represent 46 African states.

Al Azhar University will host the Conference of Rectors, Vice Chancellors and Presidents of African Universities (COREVIP) on July 8-11.

“COREVIP is a permanent organ of the Association responsible for debating and taking concerted action to reinforce inter-university co-operation. It comprises the Executive Heads of member and Associate member institutions. COREVIP is held once every two years,” according to the AAU website.

Members of the AAU Governing Board in Northern Africa are Vice-Chancellor of Ain Sham University Ezzat Abdel Wahab, and Al Azhar University President Mohamed El Mahrasawy.
