Retrial reduces activist penalty to 15 years in prison, LE6

CAIRO - 9 January 2019: Political activist Ahmed Doma was sentenced by Cairo Criminal Court to 15 years in prison and a fine of LE6 million in retrial in the lawsuit publicly known as “Cabinet Clashes” whose incidents date back to December 2011.

Doma is convicted of vandalism of public and private properties, assault on security forces, possession of bladed weapons and Molotov cocktail, and attempt to break into the headquarters of the Ministry of Interior with the aim to set it on fire.

The retrial of political Doma has started a year ago as he was sentenced to 25 years in prison in July 2017. During the clashes, the the Egyptian Scientific Institute was set on fire, a fire truck was stolen from Kasr Al Ainy street, and demolition of parts of the parliament’s building occured.
